Ipoh, Aug 24 (): Indian ace striker Mandeep Singh scored a hat-trick as India blanked minnows Oman 8-0 in the Asia Cup Hockey Championship at the Sultan Azlan Shah Stadium here today.
Mandeep scored the first goal for India as early as in the 4th minute. India scored four goals in each half. Indian players Mandeep (4th minute, 40th and 44th) hit three goals, while Ramandeep (17th), V R Raghunath (28th), Rupinderpal Singh (34th), Malak Singh (47th) and S K Uthappa (69th) are the other goals scored for India. In the pool B, India will face Korea on Aug 26.
In the second match Pakistan kicked off their Asia Cup campaign in style beating Japan with a seven goal victory. Muhammad Waqas netted two goals in the 11th and 20th minute of the match. The other Pakistan striker Muhammad Tousiq scored two goals in the 25th and 35th minute of the match. Abdul Haseem Khan and Captain Muhammad Imran scored two goals in 22nd and 33rd minute of the match. Pakistan beat Japan 7-0, leading 6-0 in the half time. Pakistan will meet Malaysia on Aug 25.
In the third match host Malaysia trounced Chinese Taipei 10-2. Chinese Taipei took the lead against Malaysia through Liu Ching Kun in the 5th minute. However, Malaysia scored five goals in each half. Faizal Sari (10th minute, 13th, 69th), Ashaari Muhammad Firhan (18th, 69th), Abdul Jalil Tengku Ahmad Tajudin (23rd), Mohd Jalil Muhammad Marhan (32nd), Ahmad Tajuddin Izwan Firdaus (39th), Mohd Noor Nabil Fiqri (45th) and Sari Mohd Fitri (62nd) are the goal scorers for Malaysia. Chinese Taipei’s second goal came in the 46th minute by striker Tseng Hsien-Yi.
