Pak must ensure peace along LoC prior to talks, says Farooq Abdullah

Jaipur/New Delhi, Aug. 22 (ANI): Minister of New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah on Thursday said that Pakistan must honour ceasefire along the border before talks can take place between New Delhi and Islamabad.

“If they (Pakistan) want friendship, they will have to stop supporting militancy, they will have to stop intrusion and firing on the border,” he said.

Meanwhile, Union Sports Minister Jitendra Singh said that Pakistan should respect the ceasefire, and added that dialogue must continue so as to ensure peace along the border.

“Let me assure you that the government has given all freedom to the armed forces to act whichever way they want to but diplomatic dialogue needs to continue,” he told media in New Delhi today.

In Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan again violated ceasefire today by resorting to unprovoked firing on Indian forward posts in Shahpur sector of Poonch district which left two women injured.

Last night, the Pakistani Army had violated the ceasefire twice by firing mortar shells on LoC posts in two sub-sectors of Poonch district, drawing retaliation from Indian forces. However, there was no loss of life or injury to anyone in the firing yesterday.

The 225-kms long LoC in Poonch-Rajouri sector has witnessed daily firing since August 10 with over 28 ceasefire violations recorded this month.

There have been over 80 ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops this year from

January 1 till now. (ANI)
