New Delhi, Aug 22 (): Maruti Suzuki India (MSI), the country’s largest car manufacturer has launched the new WagonR Stingray compact car on Wednesday in the Indian market.
Maruti WagonR Stingray comes with many features generally associated with top-end luxury cars. The Wagon Stingray is being offered in a total of 3 variants – LXi, VXi and VXi(O) and is powered by the same 1.0-litre K10B petrol engine as the regular WagonR. The engine comes mated to a 5-Speed manual transmission and is rated at 68PS and 90Nm.
In the interiors, it sports premium black upholstery and leather encased steering wheel with steering mounted audio controls. The Stingray gets unique alloy wheels in brushed grey finish. The new car has additional features like projector headlamps, reflector grille and passenger seat under-tray.
The vehicle is offered in five colour options – Midnight blue (new), Passion red, Glistening grey, Superior white and Silky silver.
Mayank Pareek, Chief Operating Officer of Marketing & Sales, MSIL told the reporters “We are hoping sales will pick up in the festival season but we are not expecting very strong sales considering the current macro-economic conditions. It will not be as euphoric as last year.”
Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director and CEO said that with this model the company will have nine models in its compact car portfolio. He added that the company had sold around 1.3 million cars of WagonR from its launch in December 1999. “We are doing on an average of about 12,000 units a month,”he added.
The model Maruti WagonR Stingray Lxi is priced at Rs. 4.09 lakhs. Maruti WagonR Stingray VXI variant comes with rear power windows, adjustable headrests for the front and rear, a rear wiper and de-fogger, grey alloy wheels and integrated music system. It is priced at Rs. 4.37 lakhs.
The top-end VXI (O) is priced at Rs. 4.66 lakhs and has additional features like driver air-bag and ABS, electronic wing mirrors, power windows for all doors and a leather wrapped steering wheel.
