Pak-origin Azharullah most successful bowler in England’s domestic T20 circuit this season

Karachi, Aug 17 (ANI): A cricketer of Pakistani origin has reportedly hogged the limelight while playing for a foreign club due to his outstanding performance, following the successes of Pakistani-origin Fawad Ahmed and Imran Tahir for Australia and South Africa respectively.

According to The Dawn, fast bowler Muhammad Azharullah has been the most successful bowler in this year’s England Twenty20 domestic circuit and has shot to fame picking up the highest number of wickets (24) in England’s ongoing Twenty20 season, taking his side to the semi-finals of the tournament.

The report further said that the 29-year-old Azharullah, who has played in the Pakistani domestic first-class circuit in 53 matches, moved to England to play league cricket for a brief period, which became a permanent move after he acquired British citizenship this year, three years after he had moved there.

However, Azharullah, who was offered a one-year contract this season by Northamptonshire, said that it was an educated risk for the county side as they only saw his pace and career statistics on flat wickets in Pakistan, although he admitted that it had always been his dream to play international cricket.

But the report added that the risk paid off for Azharullah’s county team as they are now in contention to win a tournament they were earlier considered underdogs for. (ANI)
