Mumbai, Aug 14 (): Chennai Express released on a grand scale for the Eid festival has broken many previous box office records and is still rocking the box office collecting 124.5 crore in five days.
Movie enthusiast, Hindi movie critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the total collection of Chennai Express in five days and the break-up, “#ChennaiExpress PP 6.75 cr, Fri 33.12 cr, Sat 28.05 cr, Sun 32.50 cr, Mon 12.62 cr, Tue 11.50 cr. Total 124.54 cr”.
When compared to its opening day collection, the Rohit Shetty-directed movie witnessed more than 60% drop in its business on the fourth day. The movie further dropped by a little margin on Tuesday.
The movie has collected ₹24.12 crores at the Indian Box Office on Monday and Tuesday together, taking its five-day domestic total to Rs 124.54 crores nett. The film had the widest-ever release in more than 4,000 screens worldwide, and the increase in ticket prices in India has helped the film to cash in big numbers at the box office.
The romantic-comedy starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone raked in ₹12.62 crore on the first Monday. Chennai Express has now become the second highest non-holiday grosser on Monday after Ranbir Kapoor-Deepika starrer Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (YJHD) which collected a total of ₹13 crore on its first Monday.
Taran tweeted, “#ChennaiExpress PP 6.75 cr, Fri 33.12 cr, Sat 28.05 cr, Sun 32.50 cr, Mon 12.62 cr. Total 113.04 cr. 2nd biggest non-holiday Mon after #YJHD”.
On the overseas market, “Chennai Express” opened with a bang. The Rohit Shetty directorial even broke records of all previous Bollywood movies including Shahrukh’s past hit films My Name Is Khan and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. After five days, the movie has collected ₹58 crore in the international market.
Trade analysts predict that the film will manage to collect ₹145 crore by the end of this week. And, the film’s overseas collection is also looking to round off to ₹ 70 crore which means that Rohit Shetty directorial would sum up to ₹ 215 crore worldwide after week one.
