Lucknow, July 23 (): Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi along with sister Priyanka Vadra has made a visit to his parliamentary constituency Amethi on Tuesday to meet local party workers and assess the party’s standing for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Rahul Gandhi who is on a three-day visit to his parliamentary constituency with sister Priyanka landed at the Indira Gandhi International Aviation Academy in the morning from where they went to the Sanjay Gandhi guest house in Munshiganj, and would likely meet and interact with Congress workers and local leaders and give them tips on strengthening the party, said sources.
Though there are not many official engagements, Rahul Gandhi appeared keen on conducting meetings with the local leaders and grass-root workers to understand their problems.
Sources said the Congress vice president is expected to highlight about the various projects and schemes of the Centre. Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka are also believed to participate in an event at the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) station at Trisundi in Bhadar July 25, in which Union Minister for Home Affairs Sushil Kumar Shinde is also scheduled to attend the function.
Stressing the importance of social media, Rahul Gandhi also directed party men to open accounts in Facebook in order to connect to a vast number of people. At a meeting of state leaders on Monday, the Congress vice president wanted to know how many of them in the meeting had Twitter and Facebook accounts, mobile phones and had good knowledge on SMS. Those who replied in negative were asked to create accounts at the earliest, said sources.
To get closer to the rival BJP, the new means of communication has emerged as a key focus in Congress’s poll preparations, said sources. The ruling party also created a new cell recently under MP Deepender Hooda to boost domestic capabilities on fundamental networking sites.
