Mumbai, July 15 (): “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag” said to be a moving and inspirational tale of life of Indian sprinter Milkha Singh has collected good numbers at the box office in its opening weekend. The film has raked in 32.25 cr net in just three days of its release.
Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the figures on Twitter as, “#BhaagMilkhaBhaag collected Rs 32.25 cr nett in its opening weekend… Thu previews 1.05 cr, Fri 8.50 cr, Sat 10.70 cr, Sun *est* 12 cr”.
Bhaag Milkha Bhaag has become another surprise hit of this year 2013 as far as weekend collection is concerned. The film did an impressive business on Friday and decent jumps on Saturday and Sunday gave it the required push.
Director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra has given the story of former Olympian athlete Milkha Singh, also known as Flying Sikh, on the celluloid. His efforts got mixed response from critics and good word of mouth from audiences.
The film featuring Farhan Akhtar was released on Friday (July 12), across 1,500 screens in the country. A paid preview of the film was shown on Thursday, which minted Rs. 1.5 crore. The movie managed to collect Rs. 8.5 crore on its opening day.
The collection of the movie grew steadily, Taran commented, “#BhaagMilkhaBhaag witnessed an incredible escalation in biz from Fri evening/night shows and maintained the momentum all through weekend”.
The film collected 12 cr nett on Sunday. This jump is a good sign and good weekdays can take the first week collections close to 42-45 cr net. If the 2nd and 3rd week collections are satisfactory, the result may go up to 80-90 cr nett which will be a hit tag for the film, otherwise it will be an average affair.
Farhan’s performance in the movie as Milkha Singh, has been immensely appreciated, while actresses Sonam Kapoor and Divya Dutta also have made good impressions with their small, but meaningful performances.
