New Delhi, July 9 (): As per cricket schedule announced by BCCI, India tour of Zimbabwe 2013 will begin on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 in Zimbabwe.
India’s tour of Zimbabwe is an international bilateral series to be organized by Zimbabwe. This tour will be the next international assignment for India after finishing the tri nation series in West Indies, which concludes on July 11.
This tour has 5 ODI matches to be hosted by Zimbabwe in July-August 2013. Batsman Virat Kohli will lead India team for the tour of Zimbabwe in July. At present, Kohli is the captain of the Indian team playing in a tri-series in the Caribbean in the absence of skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who went home after the first match due to a hamstring injury.
The selectors of the Indian team to Zimbabwe have opted to rest captain MS Dhoni and four other key players – pacemen Ishant Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav and spinner Ravichandran Aswhin was also rested while opener Murali Vijay was dropped from the team for the upcoming ODI tour of Zimbabwe.
Off spinner Parvez Rasool has been selected for the Indian squad to Zimbabwe and he becomes the first player to be picked for a national squad from the northern state of Jammu and Kashmir. Pace bowler Mohit Sharma was the other new name in the 15-man squad for the five one-day internationals starting on July 24 in Harare.
The team has seven talented batsmen, three spinners and four fast bowlers and one wicketkeeper-batsman in Dinesh Karthik.
