Mumbai, July 6 (): Policegiri, starring Sanjay Dutt and Prachi Desai in lead roles fared poorly on its first day with collections around Rs 2.50 crore nett mark.
The movie witnessed a slow start in the early morning shows and showed a small increase in the late afternoon and night shows. But, the collections were definitely not what the producers would have expected.
Policegiri did better business in circuits like UP, Bihar and Rajasthan as in these areas the collection was better than Lootera, which opened on a slow note in these regions. Brijesh Tandon of H K Tandon and Co says Policegiri took an opening of 30 per cent in UP and 10 per cent in Delhi.
The Sanjay Dutt starrer fared better at the single screen theatres than that of the multiplexes. The collections in metro cities were also lower than the benchmarks.
Two films were released on this Friday – Lootera and Policegiri. Lootera is reflective of cinematic excellence, while Policegiri is an action entertainer. Looking at the collections, the movies can be classified as Policegiri meant for the large masses and Lootera for niche audiences.
Trade experts say being an action film, Policegiri’s initial hindrance at collecting well might deter its growth over the next few days.
