Mumbai, July 6 (): Lootera, the period romance drama starring Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha in lead roles, had a slow start at the box office on July 5, Friday, the first day of its release, collecting 4.5 crore.
Being a high-class movie, the movie fared better in urban centres than that of the mass belts. Film opened poorly to an average occupancy of 30-35% at most metropolitan multiplex centres. The occupancy never grew during the course of the day for the other shows.
The high-budget visual delight movie opened with the occupancy of just 10% to 15% in single screens and small towns. By taking a look at the collection on all circuits, West Bengal seems to be the highest grosser for Lootera, probably due to the reason that the film was shot there.
Lootera gives an art film feel and the entertainment value is lacking in the film. Trade analysts predict that Lootera’s overall performance depends on how it manages to score during the first weekend. Like the Dhanush, Sonam Kapoor starrer ‘Raanjhanaa’, Lootera with the unusual storyline has to convince the viewers.
Meanwhile, the film fraternity is already impressed with the movie. After viewing the special screening, they were very impressed by the movie and took to Twitter to share views on the film.
Inspired from the short story of O Henry’s ‘The Last Leaf’, Lootera is the inspiring story of two lovers, their heartbreak and ultimate redemption. Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane of ‘Udaan’ fame, Lootera is co-produced by Phantom Films and Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Motion Pictures.
The makers of the film are expecting better numbers on Saturday and Sunday so that the film could be put up on the charts with a decent box office total. Due to its positive reviews and an extremely good word of mouth, the film is expected to do well on Saturday and Sunday.
