Birmingham (United Kingdom), June 22 (ANI): Accepting that India would start out as firm favourites in Sunday’s ICC Champions Trophy final, England skipper Alastair Cook, however, said on Saturday that his side will give their opponents a good run for their money, as they have played well throughout the summer.
He said that if England stuck to the basics, the result could tilt in favour of “The Lions”.
“A day before the big final, one can feel the tension and nerves. Today, our boys are raring to go and that is what makes a captain and a coach happy. We have played good all summer, so this is just a one-off match. So, we will do all our basics right and hope the result comes in our favour,” Cook said.
To a question on why England have never won an ICC 50 overs a side tournament, Cook said: “It’s of course on our radar. We know of this fact that we have never won an ICC 50 overs tournament and would like to script history. The Champions Trophy is one of the goals we had when we started off the season. India for sure start favourites with the kind of cricket they have played in this tournament. The wicket was green, but don’t want to go overboard with the pitch, but instead play good cricket.”
