Panaji (Goa), June 8 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday blamed the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) for the Maoist menace stating that the UPA has failed to take care of internal terror related issues.
“Fighting terror has become communal as the UPA uses terms like Hindu terror. The UPA is also handling the Maoist issue in a confused and a laid-back manner, the Congress said it will be firm with the Maoists, but they brought in confusion and undermined the handling of the issue,” BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said.
“UPA has communalised terrorism in the country, but this “appeasement politics is never going to benefit the country,” she added.
“That NIA investigation has raised questions over whether Congress leaders were involved in the Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh. Congress’ intention is not to deal with terror but to make it political agenda. There is no religion to terror,” she further added.
Last month, in what is being termed as the deadliest attack ever by Naxals in the country, at least 17 people, including senior Congress leader Mahendra Karma, were killed and former union minister V.C. Shukla and 19 others injured when heavily-armed Maoists ambushed a convoy of party leaders inside a dense forest in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar district. (ANI)
