Mumbai, May 11 (): Aashiqui 2, Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor starrer, has earned Rs 54.5 crore in two weeks. The movie has emerged as the first super hit of the year as it continues to collect in big amount at the box office.
Trade analyst and film crirtic Taran Adarsh confirmed the new on Twitter. He tweeted, “#Aashiqui2 collected approx. Rs 17.5 cr nett in Week 2. Total: Rs 54.5 cr nett. Super Hit.”
Aashiqui 2 is a remake movie of the 1990 super hit movie “Aashiqui”. Co-produced by Bhushan Kumar and Mukesh Bhatt and made on a budget of Rs 12 crore, under their banners T Series Films and Vishesh Films, the movie has been directed by Mohit Suri.
Apart from Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor, the film also stars Shaad Randhawa, Mahesh Thakur and Salil Acharya. The songs of Aashiqui 2 had become chartbusters even before the theatrical release.
“Aashiqui 2″ was released on April 26 along with the seventh instalment of Hollywood superhero flick “Iron Man 3″. The film opened fairly well, but continued supremely well in the weekdays. The movie earned over Rs 20 crore in the first three days of its release.
The romantic movie collected approximately Rs 38 – Rs 39 crore in the first week despite facing tough competition with “Iron Man 3″.
The film has also surpassed the domestic collections of “Kai Po Che” and Ajay Devgn starrer “Himmatwala” which had collected around Rs. 48 crore and Rs. 47 crore in two weeks, respectively.
Two films, “Shootout At Wadala” and “Bombay Talkies”, were released on May 3. The collections of “Aashiqui 2″ were estimated to decrease after the release of these two movies but still the movie continued to do well.
Reports said that the makers of the film were aiming to reach Rs 58 – Rs 60 crore nett in lifetime collections. However, considering the speed at which the movie is running at, it is not expected to cross the set target.
