Champions Trophy 2013: Indian Squad, Match Schedule

Mumbai, May 5 (): The 15-member Indian squad, led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, was announced yesterday for the Champions Trophy to be played in England next month.

Wicket-keeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik is included in the squad. The other surprise inclusion is Murali Vijay who last played for India in January 2011 against South Africa. He had also failed to score a fifty in his 11 matches. Left-handed Shikar Dhawan who had a good knock in the on-going IPL has got a seat for the Champions trophy.

Fast bowler Umesh Yadav and all-rounder Irfan Pathan and Vinay Kumar had been recalled in the squad.

Opening batsman Gautam Gambhir and middle order batsman Yuvraj Singh are axed, while Rohit Sharma is included in the Squad. Paceman Ashok Dinda, batsman Ajinkya Rahane are dropped. Spinner Amit Mishra having a good show in the IPL, is also included in the squad who will perform the spin attack with Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin.

In the Champions Trophy 2009 Australia won the tournament undefeated, beating New Zealand by six wickets in the final which was held in South Africa between 22 September and 5 October. India and Sri Lanka were declared joint winners in 2002.
