Five year old rape: DCP of East-Delhi likely to be shifted

New Delhi, Apr 30 ():In the wake of the recent rape of a five-year-old girl and police inattentiveness in handling it, speculations are running high on reports on Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar to be likely shifted from the key post.

Sources said it is believed that Special Commissioner Bhim Sain Bassi might be taking charge as the New Delhi Police chief. Neeraj Kumar, a 1976 batch IPS officer has been facing extensive criticism after his inability in handling December 16 gang rape of a student in a moving bus and sexual assaults taking place in a row. Neeraj Kumar, who is expected to get a retirement in July, either will be transferred to the Bureau of Police Research and Development or might be asked to go on leave.

Not much happy with the performance of the Delhi police, Home Minister Sushil kumar Shinde has also expressed his grief over the repeated crime against women and children, manhandling of West Bengal Finance Minister Amit Mitra including the recent protest in his residence when agitators thronged his house breaking the main gate of his house.

It is believed that Shinde is willing for a reorder in the Home Ministry in the level of Joint Secretary and the Additional Secretary including the Delhi Police, which has been reporting directly to the Home Minister.

Shinde has also appointed Anil Goswami as the Home Secretary before the sitting RK Singh demits the office. Goswami has started attending vital meetings along with Shinde after being appointed as Officer on Special Duty from Monday.

Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit responding to the report said that she has asked Shinde about the Delhi Police Commissioner, to which the Home Minister replied saying that he has not yet received any file regarding Neeraj Kumar.  “It is however a matter of time as Neeraj Kumar is about to retire, ” said the Delhi CM.
