Karur, Apr 28 (): A seven-year old girl, who fell into a 900-foot-deep borewell in a farmland at Suryapalli village in Tamil Nadu around 7:00 am on Saturday morning, though pulled out by night, ending about 14-hour long intense rescue efforts, died.
Muthulakshmi, daughter of a farm labourer, who fell into the borewell around 7 am, who remained trapped in 18 feet depth from the ground level was pulled out in an unconscious state around 11 pm. The moment the girl was rescued she was immediately taken to the hospital in an ambulance, but all efforts went in vain as the girl was declared brought dead.
Earlier, hectic efforts were taken by the officials to pull out the seven-year-old girl who fell into a newly dug borewell in a small piece of land belonging to the family. The incident occurred in the morning when the girl was playing with her friend and her father Chinnapoosari was working on the farm at the time when the girl fell into the pit, which was dug only on the previous day and had been closed with a gunny bag.
Fire and Rescue Service personnel struggled hard to save the young girl using earth moving equipment to dug a pit adjacent to the borewell right from morning 8:00am, suffered delay due to the rough stony land. The rescue operation was carried out under the supervision of district Collector S Jayanthi and other top police personnel involving teams of police and fire and rescue service personnel.
As soon her father was alerted he let down a saree to the girl to climb up who was at a depth of 12 feet. With an intention to save the girl, the family lost precious moments before they informed the police. However, after information was given, a team of officials swung into action with oxygen cylinders and medicines but the end gave no result to the family.
