Box office collection : Ek Thi Daayan earns 16.12 crores in the opening (first) weekend

Mumbai, Apr 22 (): The box office collection of Emraan Hashmi is out – Huma Qureshi starrer Ek Thi Daayan earns 16.12 crores in its opening weekend of release, says Bollywoodlife.

The film managed to earn Rs 5.24 crores on the opening day at the box office and minted only Rs 4.79 crores on Saturday and Rs 6.09 crores on Sunday, making the total collection to Rs 16.12 crores.

Ek Thi Daayan was released on April 19 and the opening day earned a decent collection of Rs 5.24 crores. The movie received positive reviews from critics after the release and trade experts said that movie will see an increased collection on Saturday and Sunday.

Trade expert Akshaye Rathi said, “Ek Thi Daayan is one of the most unusual horror movies to have come out of the Indian film industry in a very long time”.

She added, “Unlike the regular ones which have scary looking creatures popping out of nowhere and loud background scores to scare the audience, this one sends a chill down the spine with the superb performances (specially by Konkona and Emraan) besides the novel plot.”

Emraan tweeted, “Thank you all for the awesome feedback Ek Thi Daayan. I assure you.. ull never look at a woman in a braid in the same way ever again”.

“Ek Thi Daayan” was the only Bollywood movie that released on that day. Being a solo release, it was thought the movie will dominate the screens in the first week.

But the collection dropped down unexpectedly. On Saturday, the movie collected only 4.79 crores, 0.45 crores less than Friday. The movie maintained steady collection on Sunday and collected 6.09 crores. Overall, a good weekend for the movie but it could have been much better.

Ek Thi Daayan’s 1st weekend collection is less than his 2 previous hits of Emraan Hashmi Jannnat 2 and Raaz 3D which collected 23 crores and 35 crores respectively in the 1st weekend. But, Ek Thi Daayan is a low budget movie; so 16.12 crores in the 1st weekend will be considered a good collection figure.
