‘Disappointed’ Butt hopes to resume career after completion of ban

Karachi, Apr 18 (ANI): Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has said that he is hoping to resume his career in little more than two years, although he has accepted that he will now have to serve the rest of his ICC ban after his appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) was rejected.

Although Butt expressed his disappointed at losing his appeal, he however, said that he had already served more than two years and will be able to play after another two years, The Nation reports.

However, Butt said that although he was not sure that the decision of the CAS will be in his favour, he still hoped that his ban will be reduced, adding that he will have to complete the rest of his ban.

Citing the age of current Test and ODI Pakistan captain Misbah-ul Haq as a sign that he will have a chance to resume his career, Butt said that although the banned years will be a struggle for him, he will still be young as compared to Misbah when he completes the ban and thus can still play cricket.

Butt, who was given a 10-year ban for his part in the 2010 spot-fixing controversy, was given a suspension for five of those years on condition that, throughout that period, he commits no further breach of the ICC code and that he participates in a programme of anti-corruption education, the report added.
