Mumbai, Apr 16 (): Bestowing a special invite to actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, the French government has decided to confer upon a civilian award to the Bollywood actress for her contribution to the arts, while Aishwarya would be attending the 2013 Cannes Film Festival this year.
The 39-year-old former Miss World will be receiving a special invitation from the French government to attend the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, which will be considered to be the 66th edition of the iconic episode and will be witnessing a horde of Bollywood attendance at its 100th anniversary this year.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, the dazzling beauty queen and a former Miss World has been walking the red carpet at Cannes for the past one decade and is bestowed with one of the highest civilian awards of the French government – Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters.
While talking to reporters, French Ambassador to India, Francois Richier had claimed that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is highly regarded and esteemed in his country due to her long-standing association with the film festival. “We are very grateful to her and she is very close to our heart. The Cannes Festival is likely to have a special focus on Indian cinema where Indian film stars will be invited,” added Richier.
Aishwarya Rai, who gave birth to a baby girl, Aaradhya Bachachan, on 16th November, 2011 also faced biting criticism in her homeland earlier after she found difficulties in reducing her weight post pregnancy.
Among the other legendaries who are believed to be invited by the Cannes organizers are Amitabh Bachchan and South Indian cultural icon Rajinikanth.
Seventy-year old Amitabh Bachchan, father-in-law of Aishwarya is expected to make his Hollywood debut at Cannes. Based on American author Francis Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel of the same name,The Great Gatsby, the film will open the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. The film is scheduled to be released in US and in India on 10 May and will likely be releasing in UK on May 16.
