KKNPP management is undertaking trial experiments at the plant for the past three days. Extreme noise accompanied by smoke and obnoxious smell are emanating from the plant evoking fear and concern among the locals and residents of the area. The emanating sound may be equated to the noise arising out of thousand airplanes flying at a time. Thick white and black smoke are coming out of the plant alternately.
Foul smell as of burnt tyres was coming out of KKNPP all through the night on March 30,2013. We are not aware of any such smell or sound coming out of a nuclear plant anywhere in the world. KKNPP is also witnessing frequent fire accidents and deaths arising out of low-quality spares and equipment brought from Russia.
Our people in the area are suffering from burning of eyes due to this intolerable noise and smoke. Children and old aged people are living in constant fear and worry. Pregnant mothers and their families are anxious about the well-being of their unborn children.
We strongly condemn the construction of KKNPP in such a densely populated area with the least concern for the locals, having not offered any kind of disaster management training for the people.
In strong condemnation of the KKNPP management, PMANE activists and anti-nuclear supporters have planned to take siege of Chettikulam nuclear plant township on Wednesday, April 3,2013. Fishermen belonging to Tirunelveli district will not venture into the sea to show their support for the cause.
