Ace designers dedicate their collection to rural India

Mumbai, Mar 26 (ANI): Renowned designers dedicated their collection to rural India, showcasing their depiction of the clothes and designs, on the penultimate day of the fashion week in Mumbai.

Ace fashion designer Vikram Phadnis said that the theme of his fashion line was ‘A Celebration of Rural India’.

Founder of UTV Group, Ronnie Screwvala congratulated designer Vikram Phadnis on the success of his show.

Screwvala also said, “Vikram has worked very hard for the past three months for this show. We are very very thankful to him for that. He has done a fantastic show. For Swades, I would just like to say that we needed to profile rural India. A lot of people asked, why to include rural India in the fashion week and I answered, to give a profile and create awareness among the people here”.

Around 40 models and 30 Bollywood celebrities walked the ramp as designer Phadnis showcased his fashion line on Monday at the Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) Summer-Resort 2013.

Phadnis said that he was inspired by the bright colours of the Sun and the same was reflected in his collection.

“This time, I was inspired by the energy of Sun to choose the colours for the collection I designed for Swades. Like I chose Red, Orange and Mustard for the collection I displayed. I only design Indian clothes and the designs were really simple. I believe that even I cannot recreate the energy portrayed by the audience. I think it was once in a life time, I don’t think I can recreate this magic that happened tonight,” said Phadnis.

Various Bollywood celebrities such as Kunal Kapoor, Neha Dhupia, Poonam Sinha, Vaibhavi Merchant, Arbaaz Khan, Malaika Arora Khan, Rohit Bal, Dia Mirza, Juhi Chawla and many others walked the ramp along with people from Swades foundation wearing Phadnis’s collection.

Phadnis partnered with a social organization Swades to dedicate his collection to the cause of empowerment of rural India.

Phadnis’s collection had a rural touch, that included cotton sarees with embroideries, salwar kameez, khadi kurtas, sherwanis for men and subtle yet graceful lehengas.

The fashion week saw the participation of various Bollywood celebrities and renowned designers.

Such events help promote young and budding talent in the fashion industry and also ensure that designers are provided with a platform to showcase their talent. (ANI)
