Mumbai, Mar 26 () : Aamir Khan has been signed up as brand ambassador for Godrej to feature in nine commercials that will be premièred in the sixth edition of IPL scheduled to begin next week.
The company which gave IPL a miss last year is back as TV sponsor of the tournament this year. It is for the first time that Godrej has a brand ambassador and till now were having celebrities Priety Zinta for `Godrej Eon’ and Hrithik Roshan followed by Virat Kohli for `Cinthol’ in their ads.
Two years ago, UK-based Interbrand conducted a brand valuation of the 100-year-old company and put it at $2.86 billion. The company with $4 billion turnover is to go in for a similar exercise by the end of 2013.This is the first time that Aamir Khan is teaming up with Godrej. The drive is to promote Good Knight the mosquito repellent and Aer, the newly launched air freshener. New products will roll out by middle of 2013.
Pepsico, the soft drink is hoping to cash in this summer with the Rs 150 crore branding of IPL during this year’s edition as 35% of its annual sales are done in this climate. Cola on the other hand will be spending Rs 25 crore on spot advertisement in the IPL telecast. Last year, Cola was the official drink of five IPL teams and this season it has not renewed the contracts with four while the fifth team’s (Mumbai Indians) term is yet to end. Incidentally, Mumbai Indians’ captain Sachin Tendulkar is the brand ambassador of Cola.
Except for Mumbai Indians, Pepsi has got eight teams to sign them up as their official beverage. On the TV front, Set Max’s Multi Screen Media which has the telecast rights has co-presenting rights with Pepsi.
South teams Chennai Super Kings and The Sunrisers Hyderabad along with Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab will promote 7UP while Pepsi would be campaigned by Kolkata Knight Riders, Pune Warriors and Delhi Daredevils (who would additionally promote Mountain Dew).
