Washington, March 24 (ANI): Men now devote more time to family than in previous decades and women are spending more hours at work than ever before, according to a new study.
The survey touches on a trend that has been long in the making, said Cornell University ILR School Assistant Professor Beth Livingston.
Over recent decades, men have increased their share of household labour and childcare, and expectations for co-parenting have risen, she added.
“Along with these shared familial responsibilities, however, comes that inevitable emotion with which working mothers have long been acquainted – guilt,” Livingston said.
“Though working women might scoff at these findings — rightfully noting that they have been feeling guilty for decades — the fact that men are reporting these reactions more often and more strongly suggests a shifting gender norm in American society,” she added.
The study was recently published by the Pew Research Center. (ANI)
