Chennai, Mar 23 (): Expressing concern over the Supreme Court’s verdict on actor Sanjay Dutt in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case, Tamil Nadu Superstar Rajinikanth on Friday reacted sharply saying that he was totally upset by the verdict of the apex court and will pray God for a quick remedy for the Bollywood actor.
Rajinikanth said that Sanjay Dutt is a lovely person and a very good friend of him. Though he was totally disturbed he said that he has faith by the way Sanjay Dutt has been receiving support for his pardon.
Rajinikanth said that he met Dutt in the shooting of the Bollywood actor’s upcoming film Policegiri a few days back. Without hiding his displeasure, the superstar expressed his feelings over the Supreme Court’s verdict on Sanjay Dutt in connection with Bombay blasts 1993 case.
Rajnikanth’s statement was followed after Justice Markandey Katju sent an appeal to Maharashtra Governor K Sankarnarayanan to pardon Sanjay Dutt under Article 161 of the Constitution saying that Dutt was found not to be involved in the 1993 Mumbai blasts and had suffered a lot.
Following the verdict, several members of the film fraternity in Kollywood including Kamal Hassan expressed their anguish over the news. Mr Dutt whose sentence was reduced to five years has been asked by the apex court to surrender within four weeks before the Bombay Court. Sanjay Dutt has already spent 18 months in jail, and will have to serve remaining three and half years behind the bar.
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party MP and yesteryear Bollywood actress Jaya Bachchan has also expressed her grief saying that she agrees with everyone that Sanjay Dutt has undergone heavy distress. It will not be fair to give him such a big punishment, said the veteran actress. Claiming that Sanju Baba is a different person now, Jaya Bachan said that she will personally make an appeal to governor and ask him to pardon him.
