Rajinikanth fans on hunger strike seeking separate Eelam

Vellore, Mar 19 (): Rajinikanth fans of Vellore District sat on a one-day hunger strike today stressing the need for a separate Eelam for Sri Lankan Tamils, the actions to be taken against war crimes of racist Rajapakse government and to regain Kachatheevu.

The support for the Tamils regarding the Sri Lankan issue has reached the peak in Tamil Nadu, at a level which was not seen before. The protest, which was started by college students has now turned as a social protest. Latest reports state that Superstar Rajinikanth’s fans have joined their hands in the protest.

Under the leadership of Vellore district Rajini fans association secretary, N Ravi, an one-day hunger strike was observed today, March 19 in Sholingar Nagar. Many Rajini fans took part in the strike. Rajinikanth fans’ association members of Sholingar – Kesavan, Marlin, Pandyan, Natarajan and Venkatesan took part in the hunger strike.

The representatives of political parties AIDMK, DMK, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, BJP and other parties also participated in the hunger strike.

ADMK spokesperson Somu Mani, DMK Vellore district co-secretary Asokan, Vellore East Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi Secretary Rathina Sukumar, BJP Sundaram, PMK lawyer Chakravarthy, counsellors Elumalai and Sekar took part in the hunger strike.

S Sekar, PRO John from Chennai also joined the hunger protest, organised by Sholingar Nagar N Murugan. Rajini’s fans had embarked on a hunger strike during 2009 when Eelam War was at its peak, now they have come forward to lend their full support for the anti-Sri Lanka protest.

In addition, Tamil Nadu Film Directors’ Association (TANTIS) had yesterday announced its decision to observe one-day fast by Kollywood film industry today, Tuesday demanding the centre to move a resolution against Sri Lanka at the UN’s human rights body meet later this month.

Secretary of TANTIS and filmmaker, M. Ameer has announced that all the shooting schedules will be cancelled in connection with the strike on March 19.
