New Delhi, Mar 18 (): WIFW, the Wills India Fashion Week 2013 came to an end with designer Manish Arora’s grand finale show on March 17, Sunday at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
The Wills India Fashion Week (WIFW), is a bi-annual fashion week organized and promoted by the Fashion Design Council of India and sponsored by Wills Lifestyle. The fashion week started in 2000. The five-day fashion event of this year concluded on March 17.
WIFW provides a platform for both established and upcoming talented designers to showcase their fascinating collections. 125 leading and young designers from across the country took part in the fashion show.
The highlight of the opening day was the ramp walk by Bollywood actor Preity Zinta in designer Surily Goel’s off-shoulder sequin-bathed dress.
Tarun Tahiliani put up a splendid show on the second day of the show that took inspiration from ‘Kumbh’. His draped dresses took the art of bandhni to a higher level and used wool —a first with sarees. Tahiliani had used silk, cotton, ajarakh, cotton silk, velvet tapes and cashmere. But despite the traditional elements, the garments had a contemporary look.
Designer Manish Malhotra opted for young actors including Jacqueline Fernandez, Sidharth Malhotra and Esha Gupta to showcase his collection titled ‘Threads of Emotions’ on the third day of WIFW. His collection consisted of saris, anarkalis, floor-length anarkalis and angarakhas. For men, there were bandhgalas and structured clothes. The fabrics used were georgette, net and raw silk.
Malhotra received the most cheers from the audience, especially girls who shouted his name from each and every corner.
The show of designer Rajesh Pratap Singh was a welcome change as it was an apt autumn or winter collection and he experimented with wool and neutral styles for women.
The grand finale show displayed by Manish Arora showcased the collection that he presented at the Paris Fashion Week a couple of weeks back.
