Mumbai, Mar 14 (): Shahrukh Khan starrer Om Shanti Om is releasing in Japan with Japanese subtitles on March 16, just few days after the Salman Khan starrer Ek Tha Tiger premiered in Japan.
Director Farah Khan of Om Shanti Om is presently in Tokyo to release Shahrukh Khan-Deepika-starrer movie on March 16, while Ek Tha Tiger, which was premiered in Japan recently, is slated to release on April 20.
The distributors – Eros International has planned to release the movie titled Koi Suru Rinne Om Shanti Om. Eros said that their rush-release of Om Shanti Om in Japan this weekend has nothing to do with Yash Raj’s carefully-strategized Japanese release plans for Ek Tha Tiger.
Farah Khan has blamed Eros that they have not promoted the Shahrukh Khan-starrer strongly. The director said he really fired Eros. Shahrukh is a very popular personality in Japan and so the film will get a big release and a grand premiere. Farah also claimed that the Japanese posters and trailers of the film went viral a few weeks ago.
Senior vice-president, business development of Eros, Kumar Ahuja said that they had been in talks for a while and wanted to make the announcement closer to Om Shanti Om’s release date. They were constantly looking at opening new markets for Bollywood films and that was the reason the release of Om Shanti Om was not mentioned earlier.
Interestingly, Om Shanti Om is being released in Japan by Asia Films, another distribution company. There seems to be a lot of competition among production houses and their Japanese distributors too!
Om Shanti Om releases across 15 screens while Ek Tha Tiger is planning to release on an even bigger scale – around 30 screens.
Farah attended the premiere of OSO in Tokyo on March 12 and will stay there till March 16. However, the lead actors of the film – Shahrukh and Deepika Padukone would not attend the premiere as they are completing the shoot of Rohit Shetty’s Chennai Express.
