Chennai, Mar 13 (): After facing a lot of postponements and creating great hype among the audiences, the Tamil movie Paradesi is releasing on March 15, Friday.
Directed by the National award-winning filmmaker Bala, the movie features Atharvaa, Dhanshika and Vedhika in the lead roles. The film is centred on real life incidents that took place before independence in the 1930s.
The story behind Paradesi was adapted from Malayalam novel ‘Eriyum Thanal’. It is also said the story is based on the novel, Red Tea. The director initially decided to choose the same title as that of the Malayalam novel for the movie. However, he changed the title as Paradesi later. The movie depicts the trials and tribulations that a couple working in a tea estate undergo to raise their son.
The movie deals with the slavery in the tea plantations and exhibits the agony and pain experienced by the tea plantation workers, who were treated like lesser human beings during the colonial era, before independence.
Atharva has transformed his costume from his urban, chic image to that of a tea plantation worker’s, with sticky hair, skinny body and clothes to look like an under privileged man.
On the other hand, Dhanshika has also been rigorously trained to make the scenes of the movie more realistic. She was also asked to maintain fasting to look like a starving plantation worker for the final scenes of the movie.
GV Prakash has scored music to the lyrics of Vairamuthu. The movie has 5 tracks, sung by many singers ranging from Bala himself to Gangai Amaran and Priya Himesh. There is a folk number and a gana number Thannai Thanae, sung by Gana Bala, which is said to be one of the highlights of the movie. Renowned Tamil writer Nanjil Nadan has written dialogue for the movie.
Paradesi shoot was wrapped up in just 90 days. Produced by Bala himself, the movie is certified ‘U’ by censors.
