Jamshedpur (Jharkhand), Mar. 3 (ANI): A colourful extravaganza was organised on Sunday in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, to celebrate the 174th birth anniversary of Tata Group founder Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata.
Tata Group chairman Cyrus Mistry, his predecessor Ratan Tata and Tata Steel Managing Director H M Nerurkar paid a floral tribute at the statue of Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata.
Held in the premises of Tata Steel Plant, the employees carried out several processions that displayed different departments of the Tata-run enterprises.
Addressing the gathering, Mistry said it was a great honour for him to pay homage to the founder of Tata Steel.
“It is the time to pay homage, its time to reflect on the values, on the entrepreneur spirit that has created this group and this organisation. It is time for us to reaffirm our commitment to the values set by our founder. We have all, during the last over 100 years prosper, it is for us to ensure that more and more people benefit from the fruits of our labour,” said Mistry
The crowd was delighted by performance of folk artists and processions. Also the workers marched on the ground paying a tribute to the founder.
Jamshedji Tata’s son, Dorabji Tata, set up the Tata Iron and Steel Company, the first Asian integrated steel plant, on August 26, 1907.
Commonly referred to as ‘Tatanagar’ or ‘Steel City’, Jamshedpur is a recognition of the company’s significant presence in the eastern region of the country.
Today, the Tata Group has expanded its services to automotives, commodities, energy, hotels, retail, financial services, broadcast and software and telecoms.
Tata Steel has also won the “Award for Corporate Social Responsibility in Public health” by US- Indian Business Council (USIBC), Population Services International (PSI) and the centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in 2007.
Moreover, Tata Steel is also the first integrated steel company in the world, outside Japan, to have been awarded the Deming Application Prize 2008 for excellence in Total Quality Management.
Jamshetji Nusserwanji Tata was born on March 3, 1839 and died on May 19, 1904. (ANI)
