Chennai, Feb 22 (): Recently, there were promotional advertisements for Vijay-starrer Thuppaki in print media which ran thus:
“Tom Cruise and Vijay
Mission Impossible? Never ..for both..
What Cruise can accomplish in Hollywood
Vijay can do with ease in Kollywood”
The additional cute shock was the promotional poster showing Vijay and Tom Cruise facing each other, looking deadly in dark glasses.
Tom Cruise & his stunts
The 50-year old Hollywood actor, Tom Cruise has a string of box office hits like Mission Impossible series, Minority Report and The War of the Worlds. He is said to be dedicated to performing his own stunts with years of experience, that include running through a sandstorm in the Dubai desert and walking right out the window of the world’s tallest building.
The one signature stunt Tom Cruise did for Mission Impossible –Ghost Protocol was that he climbed up and also ran down the mirrored glass exterior of the world’s highest building, Burj Khalifa, the 181-storeyed, 2,723-foot-tall skyscraper in Dubai.
Tom Cruise, in the first movie Mission Impossible, filmed a scene where thousand-gallon aquariums exploded around him, sending 16 tons of water in his direction. For “M:I2,” Cruise scaled a sheer rock wall and hung from a helicopter six storeys above the ground. And in the third movie, Cruise was yanked into the air by one cable and crashed into the side of a car by another for the scene where an explosion tossed him around like a rag doll.
Vijay & his stunts
Ilayathalapathy Vijay too has a string of hits to his credit – Pokkiri, a box office blockbuster and the second highest grossing Tamil film of 2007; Velayudham one of the top grossers of 2011; Nanban, the biggest hit for Vijay in 2012, which went on to complete its 100th day run in theatres.
Vijay had jumped from farthest heights into deep waters for the perfect shot in Vettaikaran. Stunt choreographer Kanal Kannan himself was said to have been spell-bound by Vijay’s breathtaking stunts in Sura.
Vijayan, action choreographer has said last year that Vijay does not require stunt rehearsals like other actors.
This is not all. Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s action-thriller Thuppaki was a commercial success across the globe and was declared a blockbuster. The film officially entered the 100-crore club in Kollywood making Vijay only the second actor after Superstar Rajinikanth to cross this magical number. The climax scene of Thuppaki was shot with 7 cameras and the stunt sequence was filmed with 60 fighters, along with Vijay. Major portions of Thuppaki were said to have been shot in the crowded locations at Mumbai where Vijay wowed the on-lookers with his gravity-defying stunt scenes which he performed without any dupe.
We are sure Vijay’s fans will come out with more of his awesome stunts.
Well, apparently from all these records and data, it appears Tom Cruise, Hollywood’s highest paid actor as of 2012, one of the top 5 film stars of all time (Empire magazine), the world’s most powerful celebrity in 2006 (Forbes), has a real tough competitor, Vijay in Kollywood!
Competition begins for the show-stoppers of Kollywood and Hollywood!
