Mumbai, Feb 11 (): Akshay Kumar starrer Special 26 has earned 27 crores, while Remo D’Souza’s dance movie ABCD has managed to earn 19.5 crores in its first weekend of release.
Special 26 and ABCD – Anybody Can Dance were the much-hyped and most-awaited movies, which had massive promotions prior to their release.
Akshay Kumar’s Special 26 that opened to a warm response on Friday managed to put up good numbers on Saturday and Sunday, thus collecting 27 crores at the domestic box office in its first weekend.
As per reports given in Bollywoodlife, the break-up collection for the movie is : Friday Rs 7 crores, Saturday Rs 9 crores and Sunday Rs 10.5-11 crores.
Directed by Neeraj Pandey, Special 26 was released in 1750 screens on Friday, February 9. It opened to average response on Friday, but the business picked up well on Saturday and Sunday. The movie witnessed good business in multiplexes as compared to single screens.
On the other hand, Prabhu Deva starrer ABCD- AnyBody Can Dance has collected 19 crores at the domestic box office in its first weekend. ABCD has done exceptionally well, in spite of no star names to attract the audience.
ABCD was opened in 750 screens on February 9. It started with a bang with its occupancy ranging between 55% and 70% on Friday.
As per reports given in Bollywoodlife, the breakup collection for the movie ABCD is: Friday Rs 5.5 crores, Saturday Rs 6.5 crores and Sunday Rs 7.5 crores.
The most interesting fact is no one expected the movie to collect anything more than 10 crores in its first weekend, but ABCD has beaten all the expectations. In fact, the weekend collections of ABCD were just 25-30% lower than a big stars’ movie Special Chabbis.
The 3D version of the film is running to packed houses in Mumbai, Mysore, Bangalore, Mangalore and in big cities of Andhra Pradesh. And also, the film was running houseful in North India on Saturday and Sunday.
