Box office collection : Vishwaroopam earns Rs 4 crore in three days at overseas BO

Chennai, Jan 30 (): Though Kamal Haasan’s magnificent project Vishwaroopam  faced release ban after few Muslim groups appealed that the Muslim community has been shown in bad light, recent reports say the movie is making good business in UK and US.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh has tweeted the overseas boxoffice collection as, ”OVERSEAS: Tamil film #Vishwaroopam is superb in USA and very good in UK”.

In one another post he has written, “Tamil film #Vishwaroopam *opening weekend* UK 95,676 [Rs.81.23 lacs] on 19 screens … USA $ 634,912 [Rs.3.43 cr] on 44 screens.”

Vishwaroopam was released in Tamil and Telugu in America on Thursday, 24th January. The movie was released in these countries without facing any hurdles and has done a very good collection. Despite the scattered release and controversies, Vishwaroopam received highly positive reviews from critics too.

In its opening weekend, Vishwaropopam collected in UK £ 95,676 [Rs 81.23 lacs] by showing in 19 screens and in USA $ 634,912 [Rs 3.43 cr] showing in 44 screens.

Film critic Taran Adarsh said the Telugu version of the film grossed  Rs 55.38 lakh ($ 1, 02,657) from 28 screens in US.

After the release of Kamal Hassan’s Vishwaroopam, the coleection of Sankranthi release Telugu movies Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu (SVSC) and Naayak has dropped down at the USA Box Office in the third weekend.

Reports from oneindia entertainment say SVSC featuring Mahesh Babu and Venkatesh in lead roles collected $36,242 from 25 screens at the USA Box Office, taking its 22-day total to Rs 8.74 crores ($16,19,182) in the country.

Ram Charan Teja’s Naayak has collected $10,096 from 11 screens at the USA box office, taking its 23-day total to Rs 2.65 crores ($4,91,421).

Vishwaroopam, which faced a ban from the Tamil Nadu government, is actor-director-producer Kamal Haasan’s most expensive film, made at a cost of Rs. 95 crores.

Vishwaroop, the Hindi version of the film, releases this Friday on February 1.
