Chennai, Jan 22 (): Taking potshot on the AIADMK government, DMK president M. Karunanidhi said that it is unbelievable Chief Minister Jayalalithaa is planning to take a protest against the hike in price of diesel, LPG cylinders and rail fare, as she herself has imposed new taxes to the tune of Rs 4,000 crore on the people of Tamil Nadu and also increased the price of milk, electricity tariff as well as bus fares to a large extent.
Even after Finance Minister O. Panneerselvam assured in the assembly that by August 2012 all the problems regarding power crisis in the State would be resolved, no such improvement has taken place even in January 2013, claimed Karunanidhi.
Responding to Jayalalithaa’s allegation that the DMK which claims to be the biggest partner of the UPA government has betrayed the people of Tamil Nadu by not raising its voice against the centre which took no effort in resolving the state issues, Mr. Karunanidhi said the DMK has never done any sort of negotiation with the Centre when it came to issues concerning Tamil Nadu.
The DMK even expressed its concern to the Prime Minister condemning the decision of the Centre to put a cap on LPG cylinders and has also opposed the hike in diesel price earlier, said Karunanidhi.
DMK had never “betrayed” the people of Tamil Nadu, said Karunanidhi in his party mouthpiece ‘Murasoli’, claiming that Jayalalithaa’s intention is to make the DMK walk out of the coalition, hence she would have made such an allegation. Asserting that whenever there were issues concerning Tamil Nadu, the DMK had always been the first to raise its voice, said the DMK president.
Jayalalithaa wants to create confusion between the DMK and the Central government, so that she can take advantages with it, said Karunanidhi referring to the strong criticism by Jayalalithaa on issues including Cauvery water and fuel price hike.
