India returns to top spot in ODI ranking

Dubai, Jan 22 ():  India once again claimed the top spot in the ICC ODI rankings after its win over England in Ranchi. Men in blue lead the table with a rating of 119 to England’s 118. Before the Ranchi match, India were in the third spot, while England stood on top followed by South Africa. India were ranked No. 1 for a brief period during a tri-series in Sri Lanka in September 2009.

With the India’s win over England at Ranchi and South Africa’s loss to New Zealand, India was elevated to the top spot. Now South Africa is in the third place with 116 rating points.

India has 4279 points from 36 matches with the rating of 119. England has 3316 points from 28 matches with rating of 118 and South Africa with 2201 points from 19 matches with the rating of 116.

India leads 2-1 in the 5 match series against England. To hold the top spot, India has to beat England in the next ODI on January 23 in Mohali. If England beats India in the next match at Mohali, it will move to top spot with 120 points, gaining two points.

In batsmen rankings Virat Kohli was at 3rd place and Indian skipper M.S. Dhoni was at 4th spot. Hashim Amla of South Africa tops the batsmen ranking. Gautam Gambhir ranked 14th in the list.

Ravindra Jadeja is at 7th spot in all-rounder list and Ravichandran Ashwin at the 7th spot in bowlers’ list. Saeed Ajmal leads the bowlers’ table whereas Mohammed Hafeez leads in all-rounders’ list.

In the T20, Sri Lanka leads the table followed by West Indies and India. In the test ranking, South Africa leads the table followed by England. India is at the 5th spot in the test ranking.
