Chennai, Jan 18 (): Oscar-winning musical maestro AR Rahman has become the first Indian with more than one crore fan following on Facebook, the popular social networking site, leaving behind cricket star Sachin Tendulkar and Bollywood stars Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan.
Two time Oscar award and a Grammy award winner has a page on Facebook that has been liked by 10,139,910 fans and 81,159 people have commented on it.
The music maestro has left all other famous Indian celebrities behind by a strong margin. Sachin Tendulkar stands second most popular person on Facebook with 9,109,898 likes; next comes ‘Dabangg’ star Salman Khan, who has 7,534,958 fans.
Aamir Khan has taken the fourth spot with 6,367,036 fans. Amitabh Bachchan has 3,600,477 fans. Priyanka Chopra comes sixth with 3,552,699 fans. Actors Hrithik Roshan, Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar and singer Lata Mangeshkar have bagged the seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth spots respectively.
Rahman celebrated this feat by thanking his fans on his official page late night on Tuesday. He posted a picture on the page which says, “10,000,000 and thanks.”
Rahman has done several projects apart from movie albums. Vande Mataram is his album of a original composition. This album enjoyed great commercial success after its release during India’s 50th anniversary of independence in 1997.
For London Olympics 2012 opening ceremony, Rahman composed a Punjabi song. On 20th December 2012, Rahman launched the single “Infinite Love” in both Hindi and English observing the last day of the Mayan calendar to spread love, peace and hope. Infinite Love has got worldwide appreciation and also went viral on You Tube.
In addition to Grammy and Oscar, Rahman has won a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe award, four National Film Awards, fifteen Filmfare Awards and thirteen Filmfare Awards South.
AR Rahman’s latest hit is the album of Mani Ratnam’s yet to be released Tamil movie Kadal.
