London, Jan 17(ANI): Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez has been banned from driving on Thursday at Manchester Magistrates’ Court after the Argentinean striker failed to understand the word constabulary on official letters from the police.
Tevez was fined more than 1,500 pounds after he did not respond to police letters when his car was clocked speeding, the Daily Mail reports.
The court heard he received letters from the police when his car was clocked speeding twice but his solicitor said he failed to respond because he did not recognize the word constabulary, the paper further reported.
The striker, who did not attend the hearing in person, pleaded guilty to two counts of failing to furnish information in relation to the incidents, it added.
Tevez also admitted not having a proper UK driving licence, but denied he was driving when his car was caught speeding, the paper said.
The footballer’s solicitor, Gwyn Lewis, told the court that his client does understand the word police, but not more complicated words, adding the letters are written from Cheshire Constabulary and the word police doesn’t appear on it anywhere.
Lewis added that was also the case in relation to the speeding office in Morecambe, which was pursued by Lancashire Constabulary.
When discussing the possibility of a fine, Lewis told the bench that Tevez is a footballer and in that regard he is relatively well paid. (ANI)
