Melbourne, Jan 16 (ANI): The world’s first real life Barbie “Dreamhouse” is set to go on display as part of the latest reinvention for the 54-year-old wonder doll.
The sprawling multi-level mansion will be unveiled in Berlin in March, and true to Barbie style, it’s bright pink and glitzy, News.com.au reported.
It covers 2500 sq m – almost ten times the size of the average Australian home – with visitors able to bake cupcakes in the Barbie kitchen, browse sparkly dresses and stilettos on display in Barbie’s walk-in wardrobe, and explore Barbie’s beauty salon, according to The Times.
It will also offer young girls the chance to perform on the Barbie stage or parade in the Barbie fashion show.
The Dreamhouse, which is more kitsch than cool, is the latest ploy to make the world’s best-selling doll capture a new generation of young girls in the highly saturated toy market.
“When you have a brand that is more than 50 years old, you have to make sure you are relevant to the generation coming through,” Sarah Allen, a spokeswoman for Mattel in the UK said.
“There are so many more toys for girls today and the Dreamhouse is about bringing Barbie to life. We are constantly striving to reconnect,” she said.
Mattel introduced Barbie in 1959 as Barbara Millicent Roberts, the very image of a wholesome fashion addict.
While visitors will be encouraged to spend a whole day living the dream, the only chance of communication with Barbie herself will be by pink telephone. (ANI)
