Mumbai, Jan 13 (): Vishal Bhardwaj’s newly released Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola (MKBKM) did not attract much crowd to the theatres on its opening day. As per reports given in Boxoffice capsule, the collection from previews and Friday shows is Rs. 7 crore net and on Saturday the movie collected Rs. 6.10 crore. MKBKM has collected 13.10 crore approximately in two days.
On Thursday evening, January 10, the film had a good number of preview shows in metros. Preview shows had a very warm response and audience had mixed reactions.
The romantic comedy was released in 1,850 screens in the country on January 11, Friday. The occupancy was poor for the morning show. The movie witnessed low occupancy in the single screens, while it registered slightly better occupancy at multiplexes across the country.
The makers of the movie expected a better opening, but it was affected by the release of few big banner regional films. Punjabi film Saadi Love Story in North and Tamil flick Alex Pandian and Telugu movies Naayak and Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu in South India surely affected the collection of MKBKM in the regional areas.
The overseas collection of the movie is even worse. In UAE, the film managed to collect some good figures, so, the overseas collection managed to cross 1 cr nett in 2 days.
However, Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola has surpassed the first day collection record of Imran Khan’s last release Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu (EMAET), which had raked in Rs 5.5 crores at the domestic Box Office on its opening day in the country.
Vishal Bhardwaj has produced, co-scripted, directed and scored music for the film. It also features Arya Babbar and Shabana Azmi in supporting roles and Aamir Khan and Ajay Devgn in cameo roles.
The movie has to show big growth in collections on Sunday, to survive at the box office.
