New Delhi, Jan 10 (ANI): India hosted the first ever stand-alone meeting of the National Security Advisors of all the BRICS nations in New Delhi on Thursday to outline the rapidly growing synergy between the member nations.
Brazil, Russia, India China and South Africa come together to form the BRICS nations.
The BRICS NSA’s have met on the sidelines of each summit. Russia hosted a formal meeting of BRIC NSAs in May 2009, when South Africa had not then been included in the grouping, to discuss the security implications of the global financial and economic crisis.
The current meeting is expected to serve as farewell to Dai Bingguo, the Chinese Security Advisor, who would step down from his post in the coming months.
Dai is expected to also hold bilateral talks with his Indian counterpart, Shiv Shankar Menon to improve relations between the two countries.
Over the past years, the BRICS countries have maintained stable and fast growth on the whole, and have thus become an important locomotive in pushing forward global economic growth.
The BRIC acronym was coined in 2001 by Goldman Sachs economist Jim O’Neill, who was searching for a catchy way to encapsulate the broader shift in global economic growth towards emerging markets.
South Africa joined in 2010 to form the acronym BRICS. (ANI)
