Chennai, Jan 10 (): Santhanam’s ‘Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya’ (KLTA) is now all set to release on January 13, 2013 for Pongal festival.
KLTA is a very important film in Santhanam’s career for two reasons; one is it is his maiden production venture and the other is the top comedian of Tamil cinema is playing the lead role in this movie.
But, veteran actor-director K Bhagyaraj had filed an official complaint to Chennai city Police Commissioner S George stating that the basic idea of KLTA has a strong similarity to his yesteryear classic movie ‘Indru Poi Naalai Vaa’.
A copy of the complaint was released to the media, in which Bhagyaraj has clearly stated that KLTA was based on his 1981 blockbuster movie.
Bhagyaraj said the producer-director Ramanarayanan, who had co-produced KLTA in association with Santhanam, had approached him with the idea to remake Indru Poi Naalai Vaa. The veteran director added since he refused to entertain his idea, Ramanarayanan went ahead and remade the movie without his permission.
Earlier, director Manikandan had denied the claim that ‘Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya’ is a remake of K Bhagyaraj’s classic ‘Indru Poi Naalai Vaa’. He said KLTA looks quite like Indru Poi Naalai Vaa. The story of KLTA is also about three men who try to woo a woman. But the entire treatment in the movie is totally different from K Bhagyaraj’s film.
The director added that though the basic idea of both the movies sound similar, the story and screenplay are completely different and KLTA is a unique entertainer.
Stating in his complaint that director Manikandan has himself disclosed the matter recently in the media, Bhagyaraj had requested to take immediate action on all three of them and stop the release of the film that had been made without his consent.
Even though Santhanam faces a tricky situation, he ensures that the movie’s release for Pongal is not affected.
