BJP takes potshots at CPM, TMC; backs WB Governor’s ‘goondaism’ remark

New Delhi, Jan.10 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Balbir Punj on Thursday backed West Bengal Governor M.K. Narayanan’s comment that some sort of ‘goondaism’ is going on in West Bengal’, saying violence is the result of communist ideology and Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress’s violent response to that.

Punj said violence is central to Communist ideology and West Bengal has remained under communist rule for more than three decades, and added that violence has as a result become a language of communication between various political parties in West Bengal.

“Mamata Banerjee and her party, the Trinamool Congress, they have also picked up that language. And it is very unfortunate that instead of having any political dialogue, the parties in West Bengal they communicate each other through violence,” said Punj.

“Governor Narayanan is absolutely right when he pulls up both, the CPM and the Trinamool Congress, because violence in West Bengal is result of the communist ideology and Mamata Banerjee’s violent response to that,” he added.

In a strong statement on Wednesday night, West Bengal Governor Narayanan said the political violence going on in the state was a kind of ‘goondaism’ and not political culture at all.

Disapproving the violence taking place in West Bengal, he also asked the police and the administration to function impartially in arresting the guilty.

The Governor’s statement came in the wake of several incidents of violence involving political workers over the last few days. (ANI)
