Pakistan envoy hosts tea party for cricket team in Delhi

New Delhi, Jan.8 (ANI): Pakistan’s High Commissioner to India Salman Bashir hosted a tea party for his country’s cricket team here on Monday evening.

The event took place after Pakistan clinched a one-day and a Twenty20 series win over India.

Lauding the efforts of the team, Bashir said: “I think this visit of the Pakistani cricket team has generated a lot of goodwill, not only among cricket fans, but also, I think, generally, overall. We hope that this will continue. The sporting contacts between two countries are important and, I think, we all realise that. On this occasion, I want to congratulate Pakistan for wining the series.”

Applauding Indian hospitality, Pakistan captain Misbah-Ul-Haq said: “We received tremendous support not only from Pakistani people but also from local fans here. We enjoyed it thoroughly. The cricket team needs to be congratulated the way the played the matches. God willing, there will be more such series back home, which we will enjoy.”

Later, the team left for Pakistan.

India and Pakistan resumed bilateral cricket ties with a Twenty20 international in Bangalore on December 25 after five years.

The last series between the two sides was Pakistan’s tour of India in 2007 although Pakistan travelled to India to play the 50 overs World Cup semi-final in Mohali last year.

Bilateral cricket between the nuclear-armed neighbours were suspended after the 2008 Mumbai attacks in which 166 people were killed. India blame Pakistan-based militants for the incident. (ANI)
