Allahabad, Jan. 7 (ANI): Newly inducted hermits reached Allahabad on Monday, ahead of the ‘Maha Kumbh’ to get their training and to get acclimatized to their nomadic existence.
Teachers at the training school say new hermits come to such schools to acquire an unselfish nature.
“Here, we try and break the ego of hermits and the training process breaks egos and develops a giving and selfless nature. This ritual is going on for many years and we educate newly inducted hermits here,” said Pramod Puri, a teacher at the training school.
Hindus believe that bathing in the Ganges during the festival, cleanses them of sin and speeds up the way to the attainment of nirvana or the after-life.
“The Maha Kumbh festival goes on for almost two months during which the training goes on. After the Maha Kumbh, if the individual wants to continue with the lifestyle he can do so, and if he does not, then it is his will,” Puri added.
As many as 100 million people from across the country and abroad are expected to attend the ‘Maha Kumbh Mela’, which commences from January 14 and lasts till March 10. (ANI)
