Mumbai, Jan 5 (): Surmeet Kaur Sawhney, 37-year-old Punjabi woman from Mumbai, has become the second contestant and the first female contestant to win whooping 5 crores on the popular game show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ KBC. This latest edition is the sixth season of KBC.
In KBC 5, Sushil Kumar of Bihar, computer operator and tutor, earning a meagre Rs 6,000 per month, had won the jackpot of Rs 5 crore. In KBC 6, a home tutor and a resident of Mumbai has earned the riches in the game show hosted by Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan.
Surmeet, mother of two girls, hails from Chandigarh, but has been residing in Mumbai since few years. Her husband is a small-time actor who has done some side roles in Hindi films. Her family resides in a rented house in Mumbai.
While talking about Surmeet, sources said she is a HSC pass housewife and takes tuitions as a financial helping hand for her husband. In an interview, Surmeet said that she runs tutorials at home so she had always been interested in current affairs and studies. She said she was very confident of winning the show, when she sat on the hot seat.
Surmeet thanked Amitabh for helping her and encouraging her to stay calm and play well. She also showed her gratitude to her husband, who has worked in film ‘Band Baaja Baraat’ and had helped her in all ways.
On saying about her plans about the prize money, the bumper prize winner said her plans are to donate a part of the money for prayer rituals of their Punjabi tradition. Later, she will be deciding what to do with rest of the money.
Amitabh Bachchan too appreciated her for the way she performed the show. He said she was very confident about her replies and her winning.
The episode featuring her victory will be aired next week.
