Vishwaroopam row : TN associations decide not to distribute films if released on DTH

Chennai, Jan 4 (): After Kamal Haasan announcing that his movie ‘Vishwaroopam’ will be released on the DTH platform first, a day before the theatrical release, Tamil Nadu Film Distributors Federation and Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners Association have decided not to distribute and screen movies if they are released on the Direct-to-Home (DTH) platform.

An emergency meeting was held on Thursday in Trichy, where the two organisations discussed about Vishwaroopam DTH row. The meeting was held the next night following Kamal’s decision to release the movie on January 10. The meeting was attended by more than 700 members of the federation and the association from various parts of the State. Abirami Ramanathan, the associate president and R Panneer Selvam, the general secretary of Theatre Owners Association were also present.

The theatre owners urged Kamal not to go ahead with the screening of his upcoming flick Vishwaroopam on DTH before the theatrical release. They have also requested Chief Minister of Tamilnadu J. Jayalalithaa to interfere and solve this issue.

Finally, the associations have passed the resolution to boycott the 100 crore budget movie Vishwaroopam. An association member said no distributor will buy the film and no theatre owner will screen the movie, which will be directly aired on DTH platform. They have thus explained their stand by saying that Kamal Hassan should cancel the deal with the DTH companies. Else, no theatre in Tamil Nadu will screen Vishwaroopam.

Dish TV, Videocon d2h and Airtel digital TV will showcase the movie on 10th January, one day before its theatrical release on 11th January.

Few days back, Kamal had made it clear that there was no going back on the decision to premiere it on DTH first.

Directed by Kamal Hassan, Vishwaroopam is an action-thriller, in which Kamal himself has done the lead role along with Pooja Kumar, Rahul Bose and Andrea Jeremiah in important roles.

The movie is releasing in three languages, Tamil and Telugu versions are named Vishwaroopam and Hindi version of the same is named Vishwaroop.
