Chennai, Jan 3 (): Kamal Hassan has decided to release his mega project Vishwaroopam for Pongal and as we all know the movie will be released in DTH platform on January 10 and in theatres the next day, on January 11.
Kamal has formulated a new business model, which reportedly has not been tested anywhere in the world. This could provide a new pattern shift to cinema viewing.
For those who opposed this plan, he claimed this effort was a ‘first-of-its-kind’ initiative across the world and said it was in no way an experiment as “we are making use of the technology and money which is already there.” He said this innovative effort has been done in such a way that it does not disturbs the “ecosystem of the cinema business.”
Vishwaroopam, the Indian spy thriller written, directed and co-produced by actor Kamal Haasan, who himself plays the lead role in the movie, is being released in six digital television platforms all across the country and the movie is expected to generate more than 175 crore with one viewing across all the cable platforms.
The movie makers are targeting 5% of the 50 million digital cable subscribers in the country at present, which trade analysts predict that the new business through this platform would collect more than 175 crore.
For viewing the Tamil version, the price of the package is expected to be charged Rs. 1000 for a single viewing and for Hindi version the package cost is Rs. 500.
Theatre owners are not satisfied about the actor’s decision to release the film on DTH.
Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners Association and Madurai-Ramanathapuram United Film Distributors have today threatened that they would not screen Kamal Haasan’s movie Vishwaroopam in Ramanathapuram and Madurai districts, if the movie is released on January 10, on DTH platform.
But, Kamal maintains his firm decision to release ‘Vishwaroopam’ on Direct-To-Home (DTH) platform.
