India lose Kolkata ODI, series to Pakistan

Kolkata, Jan.3 (ANI): India on Thursday lost the three-match ODI series to Pakistan, failing to reach the latter’s 250-run total by 85 runs in the second one-day international in Kolkata’s Eden Gardens.

Pakistan had set India comfortable 251-run target to reach at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens, but India just managed to score 165.

Only Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni stood tall among the Indian batting ruin, scoring an unbeaten 54 in an attempt to reach Pakistan’s total of 251.

For Pakistan, off-spinner Saeed Ajmal and fast bowler Junaid Khan claimed three wickets each to stop India in its tracks.

Pakistan had earlier set India a gettable target of 251 in the second one-day international being played at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens.

Pakistan could have reached a higher total, riding on opener Nasir Jamshed’s second consecutive century in the series, but suffered an inexplicable middle-order collapse after being 197 for three at the end of the 39th over.

Pakistan got off to a brilliant start with openers Jamshed and Mohammad Hafeez adding 141 for the first-wicket. Thereafter it was a parade of players coming to the crease and going back in a hurry.

Jamshed continued his good run with the bat and slammed a fluent 106 that included 12 fours and two sixes, while Hafeez struck a brisk 76 to help Pakistan begin their innings on a strong note.

Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja took three wickets for 41, while fast bowler Ishant Sharma bagged 3-34. India had earlier won the toss and elected to field first. (ANI)
