Alwar, Dec 31 ():Demanding a ban on skirts as uniform for girls in schools, a BJP MLA in Rajasthan, Banwari Lal Singhal has urged to replace skirts with trousers or salwar-kameez to keep girls away from men’s lewd glances and also for their convenience during summer and winter seasons.
Terming that it is not a type of Talibani thinking or denying girls their freedom of right, the BJP MLA said that it is on the safety of the girl child who is considered to be the pride of the family.
The MLA claimed that he himself had apprehended several boys taking pictures of school girls in their cell-phones without the knowledge of the girls which can even be misused.
The BJP legislator from Alwar also said that women have to be respected and their dignity needs to be protected. He also wrote a letter to state Chief Secretary C K Mathew, demanding the ban to be implemented in schools all over Rajasthan which is an attempt to protect girls.
Girls wearing skirts have to expose their legs that can put a bad impact on a boy, said the BJP MLA Banwari Lal Singhal. In wake of the Delhi gang rape, Singhal wrote this letter to the state’s chief secretary requesting him to ban skirts in schools for girl students.
In the meantime while taking a silent march protesting the death of the Delhi gangrape victim, some girl students brought along with them skirts to protest against the remark of the BJP MLA, urging him to change his mentality rather than advising for a change in school dress and find a way how to reduce incidents of crime against women.
The agitating girls gheraoed the MLA at his residence and contributed him a skirt as a mark of their protest. In a short while BJP’s Mahila Morcha too reached the residence of the MLA which caused a clash between the agitating girls and Mahila Morch women, but was brought under control after the interference of the police.
