New Delhi, Dec 30 (): Hours after Delhi gangrape victim was flown home from Singapore, she was cremated at a private ceremony on Sunday which was kept a secret till the last moment as the police felt a larger crowd might probably create anxiety.
Keeping in mind law and order problem, officials suggested to carry out the cremation at 6.30 am, but could not do so as Hindu tradition does not permit cremation before sunrise. The completely broken father lit the funeral pyre at 7:30 am in presence of the girl’s brothers and family members.
After the rituals were performed according to Hindu religion the body of the victim was taken in an ambulance to the crematorium with tight security to ensure the cremation to take place peacefully, said the police officials. Police blocked the entrance of the crematorium for public and media.
To console the family members of the victim, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi earlier reached the airport in the morning the moment the body was flown from Singapore.
Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit was also present during the cremation of the victim of the gangrape whose body was brought in a special Air India aircraft from Singapore to New Delhi at around 3:30 am on Sunday morning.
Meanwhile unable to bear the demise of her beloved daughter, mother of the gang-rape victim collapsed on Sunday and was rushed to the hospital where she underwent check-ups and was doing completely fine. Suffering from grief the mother fell unconscious in the morning after the cremation of her daughter. The girl’s mother did not have proper food since the incident took place, said the doctors.
On the other hand, the accused have been slapped murder charges which will probably be sentenced with death penalty in the rarest of rare cases, said the police who is expected to file the charge sheet against the six offenders on January 3.
