Mumbai, Dec 25 (): Salman Khan’s ‘Dabangg 2′ has witnessed a fantastic weekend collection, making 64.50 crore net at the box office, said Taran Adarsh, film trade analyst. He said Sunday business was a major jump in trade and the business was “outstanding.”
On seeing the early estimates, Taran tweeted, “Friday 21.10 crore, Saturday 19.06 crore, Sunday 24 crore to 25 crore (estimates; final total could vary). Total: Rs 64/65 cr nett.”
As per the reports published in boxoffice capsule site, opening day of Dabangg 2 collected 21 crore, second day raked in 19 crore and third day, Sunday collected 24.50 crore. The total first weekend domestic collections thus added up to 64.50 crore.
With the overseas collection of 11.23 crore, the total first weekend worldwide collection ended as 75.83 crore.
The Salman Khan and Sonakshi Sinha starrer, directed by Arbaaz Khan has created record at the domestic box office with its first weekend collection. By collecting 64.50 crore in three days, the movie has broken three days’ collection of Salman Khan’s previous release Ek Tha Tiger, which grossed Rs 60.32 crores in three days.
Dabangg 2 has created another record, it has become the first non-holiday Friday release to cross Rs 50 crore mark at the domestic collection centres in 2012.
Initially, by collecting 21 crore on its opening day, Dabangg 2 became the biggest non-holiday Friday opener, beating the record of Rowdy Rathore, which had raked in Rs 15.1 crores on its opening day.
The collection for the movie dropped down on Saturday but Sunday saw a massive jump by collecting around 24.50 cr nett and that was a huge jump by 15% from Friday’s collection.
Trade analysts say Dabangg 2 has the benefit of witnessing the Christmas holiday and is expected to cross Rs 100 crore mark at the box office on December 25. The only drawback, which would affect the reaching of 100 crore mark on Christmas day, is the keenly-awaited India vs Pakistan T20 cricket match that is also scheduled to take place on Christmas day.
